Kennewick HS ASL Students Attend "See What I'm Saying"

Suzanne Benfield, ASL instructor at Kennewick High School, and her students attended a screening of the documentary, See What I'm Saying, as well as performances by two local Deaf ASL teachers and two performers from the film.

The screening was held on May 20-21 at the Stanford Theater in Tiger Wood Center, Nike World Headquarter, Beaverton, Oregon and was sponsored by NWASLTA.

Kennewick High Wins Best Overall in Project Goodwill

Congratulations to Kennewick High School's Marketing & Management and DECA students who competed in Project Goodwill on Wednesday night, winning the Best Overall category and the Best Donation Box outfit, winning a total of $700 for their DECA Chapter.

The Goodwill Industries sponsored event, Project Goodwill, is an opportunity for area high school students to showcase their creativity and compete for awards and prize money based on the creation of three outfits in specified categories.

Students designed and created outfits in three categories; Devine Demin, Donation Box, and Literacy. Additional prizes were given for Best Portfolio, Peoples Choice, and Best Marketing Plan as well as the Best Overall category.

The Devine Denim outfit was modeled by Ryley Dennis and created and designed by Katey Richins and Blair Westerman. The Donation Box outfit is an outfit made from items contained in a donation box provided by Goodwill. The outfit must contain a piece from each item in the box....even if it is not an apparel item. The Donation Box outfit was created and designed by Deborah Ramirez and modeled by Yuleni Martinez. The Literacy outfit was constructed entirely from books and magazines. Alex Simons modeled the dress and also created and designed the dress along with Michelle Meehan, Paul Martinez and Casey Brush.

Jose Magana and Fernando Ayala were MC's for the fashion show.

Kennewick Students Participate in Engineering Competition!

On Feburary 25th, students from Mr. Quesnell's drafting classes, Mr Long's Computer Science classes and Mr. Nett's math classes participated in the annual high school engineering competition as part of National Engineers Week, February 1-25. The competition was part of the Discover Engineering competitions, sponsored by Hanford Engineering Contractors. Students from eight area high schools participated as teams of 3-4 students with a total of 63 teams and 250 participants. The event was held at Pasco High School.

Southridge FEA Celebrate Dr. Suess's Birthday!!

In celebration of Dr. Suess's Birthday and Read Across America week, SHS FEA students hosted a storytelling with children event. The activities included storytelling, making Dr. Suess finger puppets, decorating green eggs, and flower making. The young guests received coloring books, Dr. Suess hats, a participation certificate, book marks and pencils. The entire event focused on Dr. Suess and the importance of reading!

Kamiakin Family & Comsumer Sciences Students

Students in Mrs. Willingham's Child Psychology classes have been busy this year in our community. So far this school year, the 66 students have logged over 710 hours of volunteer time working with children and the elderly! Congratulations! That is an amazing number of volunteer hours.

Students in the Kamiakin Chapter of FCCLA hosted a Valentine's Day Celebration with the residents at the Royal Columbian Retirement facility. They took cookies and puch and made a sachet craft with the residents. The residents loved having the students spend time with them and one resident even gave students hats that she had knited. The students loved the gifts!

Kennewick HS FCCLA - Off To State!!

Students in Kennewick High School's FCCLA - Family, Career and Community Leaders of America - are headed to the State Competition! At the Regional Competition held on February 15th, students placed in three events. In the Food Innovations and Recycle and Redesign events, students placed GOLD. For their Chapter Service project, they placed SILVER. Congratulations and best of luck to Tori, Amiee, Carlee and Maylen!

KeHS Technology

Students in Mr. Giancola's Material Science Technology (MST) and Construction Technology classes are pictured here.

In Construction, the student is drawing wire and demonstrating how metal can stretch. Students collect data on diameter and length and create a graph from the information collected.

An MST student has created a ring from a drawing and is designing it into wax using a Dremel tool. She created the ring from her own design and will cast it into metal.

67 Kamiakin Students Receive Top Honors at Area DECA Competition!

67 students are returning to Kamiakin with regional accolades in 21 different competitive events. Kamiakin DECA students received 15 first place prizes. the competitive events are aimed at student's career interests. This included taking a comprehensive test, followed by role playing events where students must demonstrate marketing proficiencies before judges. The students are eligible to compete at the State DECA Conference in Bellevue, WA, in March.
