KeHS Technology

Students in Mr. Giancola's Material Science Technology (MST) and Construction Technology classes are pictured here.

In Construction, the student is drawing wire and demonstrating how metal can stretch. Students collect data on diameter and length and create a graph from the information collected.

An MST student has created a ring from a drawing and is designing it into wax using a Dremel tool. She created the ring from her own design and will cast it into metal.

67 Kamiakin Students Receive Top Honors at Area DECA Competition!

67 students are returning to Kamiakin with regional accolades in 21 different competitive events. Kamiakin DECA students received 15 first place prizes. the competitive events are aimed at student's career interests. This included taking a comprehensive test, followed by role playing events where students must demonstrate marketing proficiencies before judges. The students are eligible to compete at the State DECA Conference in Bellevue, WA, in March.

FCCLA Takes Off At Kennewick High School

Advisory Committee Members Wanted!

Welcome to the 2010-2011 school year! The Kennewick Career & Technical Education programs are looking for business and community members to serve on their Advsiory Committees. Advisory committees support specific programs and members provide valuable input and advise in the ongoing development of programs.

Members provide a variety of support activities including: reviewing curriculum and making recommendations for curriculum adoption; participating in classroom presentations; judging at student leadership events; reviewing new courses and updating current course frameworks; and assisting in the ongoing planning and development of programs.

Programs include: Agriculture, Business and Marketing, Family & Consumer Sciences, Photography, American Sign Language, Technology and Engineering, Drafting, Health Occupations and Sports Medicine, and Careers In Education.

Kennewick HS DECA Members Attend ICDC

Kennewick HS DECA members Shelbi Wood, Katia Johnson, and Hayley Self attended the annual DECA International Career Development Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, April 24th to 27th. Shelbi and Hayley participated in the Leadership Development Academy, where they learned about working effectively in teams and strategies for making KHS DECA a stronger chapter. As an incoming State Officer, Katia participate in LEAD, which helped to prepare her for her duties as the Area 6 DECA President for the 2010-2011 school year.

Southridge Photography Students' Photos Going to Olympia!

Southridge High School students Emily Butler, Hayllie Ward, Sara Welch and Susana Vidro all reveived Judge's Awards or Honorable Mention Awards at the Annual ESD High School Art Show, held at Columbia Basin College. Emily and Hayllie's photos will be moving on to the State High School Art Show Competiton in Olympia, Washington. Good luck girls!!
